Research from a leading job search website on the future of work and the evolving jobs market found that a surprisingly high 96% of workers are looking for a new job in 2023 but 66% think it will be difficult to find a new job given the state of the economy, according to the results of the “New Year, New Career” survey conducted in December 2022 by Monster.com.
The survey found that 46% of workers looking for a new job expect a higher salary due to inflation while 11% anticipate a lower salary due to company budget cuts. As for why so many workers are job hunting, the survey found 40% need a higher income, 35% are unemployed, 34% say there is no room to grow in their current job, and 25% say they are in a toxic workplace.
The survey also revealed that 56% of workers think job hopping is a red flag and 55% of recruiters agree while 54% of workers believe resume gaps are a red flag and half of recruiters find it acceptable. In addition, only 25% of workers think living in a different location than their office is a red flag while nearly 62% of recruiters consider it a problem.
The “Great Resignation” of workers quitting their jobs has lasted more than a year and topped 4 million “Quits” per month. “As record-breaking resignation numbers continue to rise in the United States, employers are wondering why their employees are so quick to quit their jobs and how to keep them from leaving,” noted leading background check provider ClearStar.
A blog titled “The Great Resignation of 2021” posted by ClearStar suggested that the “resignations could be a result of the effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, low pay, and benefits, new job opportunities, or a mix of all of the above. Listening to employees and their desires for their careers is the first step to developing lasting relationships with them.”
