We Love the Tough Stuff – and Know How to
ClearStar knows that quick and reliable answers to your questions is what you need to keep business moving. Our extensive knowledgebase gives you direct access to detailed compliance information. Can’t find the answer? Let us do the research.
When you choose ClearStar as your global screening partner, you get access to a library of support documents created to help you educate your staff and clients. The library is continually updated as regulations change and as we have new and better information to share.
Works Around the Clock, Around the World
We take pride in offering the industry’s first “globally-native” platform. Sphere™ is an easy-to-use, intuitive tool built from the ground up to deliver a local experience anywhere with detailed ordering requirements programmed down to the state/province level.
Unlike other background screening platforms, Sphere doesn’t require a U.S. Social Security Number to get started — instead, our portal can be configured to request the National ID Number or to request no ID at all. And although we maintain data centers in the U.S. and the EU, Sphere technology makes it portable and enables us to easily house data in other countries, as requested, removing data residency restrictions as a barrier to your business.
The ClearStar Standard for Doing Business
ClearStar is committed to maintaining a fully-vetted provider network that’s built on long-term relationships. We don’t make deals based on the lowest cost provider, and neither should you.
Our provider network consists of companies we have collaborated with for many years. All providers are credentialed and are required to undergo a site inspection before joining our vendor list. All providers also sign ClearStar’s Business Code of Conduct which includes information on fair work practices and anti-bribery statements.
Ongoing Compliance Management
Our platform, program, and people continually adjust to the ongoing shifts in compliance requirements for more than 2,000 searches around the world.
Here are just a few ways ClearStar takes the guesswork out of compliance for you:
- Our dedicated Global Compliance Officer has 30+ years of experience in the industry
- Our team of experts includes a full-time, in-house legal counsel
- Team members have earned the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) Certification with specialty designations in Canada, the European Union, the United States, and Certified Information Privacy Management as well as the IAPP Fellow in Information Privacy (FIP) Certification

Our Team of Specialists
“Help me answer my customer’s international screening questions accurately and quickly.”
Kerstin Bagus, Director of Global Initiatives, has over 30 years of experience with global compliance and tracks privacy laws and screening trends every day so you don’t have to. The country and service level information she compiles is written for the end-user and white labeled so you can put your logo on it. If we don’t have the information you need, Kerstin, like an uber research librarian, will deliver the information you need with astounding rapidity and clarity.
“Make the ordering process simple and intuitive. Tell me what documents you need when I order or even before I order.”
Andy Hellman, Managing Director, International & Strategic Initiatives, built three previous global screening operations at major firms. Andy spearheaded the development of Sphere, ClearStar’s global screening platform built from the ground up to be simple and intuitive while also being multi-lingual, multi-currency, and multi-locational. When ordering services, you will be told precisely which information and documents are required down to the local level.
"Ensure that I am getting regular, meaningful updates and that you are using only the best providers in each region."
Emmanuell Allsopp, Manager of Global Initiatives, has worked before with Kerstin and Andy and brings 10 years of daily operational and supplier management experience to the ClearStar team. From our UK office, he monitors the workflow with our regional suppliers and reviews their ongoing reputational and sanctions screenings; just one of ClearStar’s credentialing requirements to remain a part of our supplier network.
“Build compliance into the ordering process so I don’t have to second guess my orders.”
Nicolas Dufour, EVP and General Council, also worked with Kerstin, Andy and Emmanuell before coming to ClearStar and brings deep legal expertise in global compliance and the FCRA to the team. He works hand in hand with development and operations to make sure the system reflects the requirements we must meet to remain compliant especially with Privacy Shield. He also contributes monthly to our Privacy blog that sums up the month’s important privacy news.
