Kansas Court Public Access Portal Back Online After Cyber Attack But Data May Be Out of Date

The Kansas District Court Public Access Portal that allows users to search court cases over the internet is back online after being incapacitated by a cyber attack on October 12, 2023, “but its information is temporarily out of date while courts work to input case information filed on paper,” according to a January 2024 news release on the Kansas Judicial Branch website.

“District courts are working to digitize case information recorded on paper to add it to the case management system. Case events and case documents processed after the October 12 security incident may not show up in search, at least initially,” the news release explains. More information about the portal is available on the Search District Court Records web page.

A Portal Information After Cybersecurity Incident web page on the Kansas Judicial Branch website contains this message: “Courts reverted to paper processes following the security incident. It will take time for courts to add case events and documents to the case management system that feeds information to the district court case information portal.”

The message from the Kansas Judicial Branch continues: “Case information in the portal is not current. It will take time for courts to add and update cases with information processed October 12 and after. If a case existed prior to October 12, you may search it on the portal. However, the register of actions may not show actions or documents processed October 12 or after.”
